Telling the bees is a jig I composed that refers to the tradition of telling the bees about marriages, births and deaths in a family. The thought was, if you didn’t keep the bees informed, they would take offence and leave. A black crepe or veil was hung over the hive entrance for a death and a white one for a wedding.
