The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
The Moynihan Manuscript is part of the Cullinane Archive Collection of Irish dance which is housed in the Irish Traditional Music Archive.
“In reference to the appended notes on traditional step-dancing, it is desired to emphasise to the reader at the outset that they are not intended as direction to prospective teachers of the art. They are, instead, a somewhat casual summary of the views of the late James Moynihan, Cork, on some aspects of traditional step-dancing in Cork and Munster, and of the tradition as handed on to him, by the best teachers of his day.” [Miss Eileen Curran, 1962]
