The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
The Archive has recently acquired an interesting collection of small printed song books from the turn of the twentieth century, most of them published by the Felix McGlennon company of London. They were donated by Jim Carroll and Pat Mackenzie of Miltown Malbay, Co Clare. In addition Jim and Pat have recently donated the latest tranche of digital sound recordings from their entire large field collection of singers and musicians, which was made between the mid-1960s and the mid-1990s. This collection is being donated to the Archive by degrees.
Also received were over 400 LPs from RTÉ per Harry Bradshaw. These were part of the resource collection of his long-running radio series ‘The Long Note’ and particularly represent music of the 1970s and 1980s.
Derek Warfield donated a full set of his cassette, CD and book publications. They include all the recordings of the Dublin group The Wolfe Tones.
Mary Phelan donated a copy of her radio series on Miceal Ned Quinn of Mullaghbawn, Co Armagh, ‘The Man that Shot the Dog’. The series runs to 5 CDs.
Dan Rein donated recordings of radio interviews with singer and guitarist Daithí Sproule and accordion player Paddy O’Brien conducted by him on KAFI radio, Minneapolis, MN. The collection runs to 6 CDs.
The Archive received a donation of contemporary posters which were on display at this year’s Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Co Clare. The Summer School makes this donation every year.
Cormac Breathnach donated a CD copy of a live concert recording ‘The Irish-Spanish Connection’ which was held at the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, Co Wicklow, on 27 March 2009.
Dan Milner donated an interview with fiddle player P.V. O’Donnell on 2 CDs.
The Archive purchased a full run of the 46 numbers of the Scottish Country Dance Book series. These publications have a relevance to traditional dance in Ireland as well as being a documentation of Scottish dance.
