This jig, again, one of the tunes that was composed for the Ciarán Mac Mathúna commission was called ‘Onwards and Upwards’ which was inspired by the many fieldwork recordings and photographs I came across on my research into Ciarán’s life and work. He travelled the length and breath of the country, through good and bad weather and no obstacle every stopped him from continuing his mission to collect, preserve and record our traditional music, song, stories and dance.
