The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
ITMA was delighted to welcome Gwendoline Lemaitre, an intern from Institut National du Patrimoine, Paris to No 73 Merrion Square on a six week internship recently. This was Gwendoline’s second internship at ITMA. She had previously interned here in 2022 when she worked on, among other projects, the Derek Bell Collection. You can read about Gwendoline’s work on the Bell Collection here.
During Gwendoline’s time in ITMA she has gained experience in working on the digitisation of audiovisual collections. In 2024 ITMA received funding from the Heritage Council to install a video digitisation suite and thanks to this funding ITMA is now able to digitise up to 10 different videocassette formats. Gwendoline worked on a pilot project where she developed, tested and documented a workflow for the digitisation of a number of different video formats. This pilot project will inform future video digitisation work in ITMA collections.
As well as her work on the video digitisation pilot project Gwendoline has also help ITMA staff on various other projects including the boxlisting, cataloguing and digitisation of the Christy Moore Collection.
ITMA would like to take this opportunity to thank Gwendoline for all her hard work over the last six weeks and wish her the very best of luck with all her future archiving endeavours.
Merci Gwendoline!
