The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) is committed to providing free, universal access to the rich cultural tradition of Irish music, song and dance. If you’re able, we’d love for you to consider a donation. Any level of support will help us preserve and grow this tradition for future generations.
From August 19th – 23rd, ITMA hosted a series of daily tours of the archive, exploring the history of Irish traditional music, song and dance. These tours were arranged as part of a pilot project for Dublin City Council’s Turas Óir programme, with the aim of developing tourism experiences for visitors with an interest in Irish language and culture.
Sorcha Ní Scolaí, Dublin piper and singer, taught the visitors to sing a traditional song, as Gaeilge. Guests learnt to speak some Irish language phrases as well as learning about Collector Edward Bunting, Patsy Touhy and Pádraig O’Keeffe with manuscripts and artefacts on display. The tours also featured live performances from Sorcha and ITMA staff, bringing the story of the manuscripts and artefacts on display to life.
ITMA would like to thank Dublin City Council, BÁC Le Gailge, Sorcha Ní Scolaí and all attendees. We hope you enjoyed the tour and we look forward to offering these again soon.
We had a great time teaching a song as Gaeilge at our Irish Music Tours today, part of the #TurasÓir initiative in association with @DubCityCouncil.
